My politics

Hey there. This page will give a brief synopsis of my political view of the world, with an obvious focus on the US since I live there.

Basics

I am pretty fed up with the political leaders of my country. Don't get me wrong, I love my country. It has the potetial to be the greatest country the world has ever known. But that is all that it is. Potential. Not only untapped, but so restricted as to be unseen.

I tend to be a bit of a liberal. Of the currently active parties, I suppose the one that comes closest to matching my views is the Green party. Now, before you go looking for a web site to tell you all about the greens, be aware that there are several parties that call themselves the "Green" party. Some of the platforms I've seen are downright socialist, and I don't support that platform.

The Democrats have to get a message. They just keep telling you how they are not republicans. Hear me! I don't give a rat's ass who you are not. Tell me who you are, what you stand for, and what you're going to do to start working to fix the mess that the country is in right now.

The Republicans are on the brink of a major breakdown. The supposed platforms of the party are being completely ignored.
  • Fiscal conservatism? Get real. They spend more than anyone has a right too. Balance a budget? They haven't got a clue. They just keep trying to redefine "balanced". My governor came to power by promising to balance the state budget. This really pisses me off. Not because he didn't balance the budget, because that was (for the most part) an unachievable goal. Not because he promised to, because we've come to expect politicians to lie. What really pisses me off is that he duped the typical voter into believing that borrowing $15 Billion dollars to pay off debt is balancing the budget. If that wasn't bad enough, now he's trying to "balance" the budget again by going
back on the deals he made to cut costs last year.

  • Less government intrusion into your life? Maybe if you're really rich, or completely buy off on their religious views. If you're gay, you are somehow sub human and don't deserve to have the right to pursue happiness. If you're terminally ill, don't want to be kept alive and have won every court case brought to deny you, don't worry, the federal government will still stick their nose in. If you want to read up on Islam, you'd better buy the book used with cash. Library? They're watching for you. Credit card? They'll tie it in. Before long you'll be a terrorist sympathiser.

  • Care about the environment? Good luck. The only thing the environment is good for is training our soldiers to go abroad and kill. Pay no attention to the financial benefits, both local and global.

Iraq

It is now Spring of 2005. The war in Iraq is still going on. We're losing more people, Iraqi, American and many others. I wish we could just leave, but there is no way to get out without getting their basic needs met.
